During the boom of the 1950’s, Amalfi was coined *la dolce vita – ”*the sweet life,” when some of vintage Hollywood’s most glamorous began visiting the coastline. When the stars returned home, they regaled their friends with stories of volcanic mountains plunging straight into the bluest, clearest waters they had ever swam in.
“Amalfi offers the best kind of life there is,” they said. “You have to see these tiny colorful towns, and ancient villas clinging steadfast to the hillsides. They start high above where no road seems to go, then drop all the way down, just close enough to the waters’ edge. A bottle of wine always seems to be within arms reach, while live music plays around every corner. The food is so light and fresh, you feel like you could eat all day. And you do. And they never stop bringing more…. How many courses could there be? Even when you tell them you’ve had too much, they still insist on bringing you a little something sweet, on the house. They drop it at your table with a wink—they know you wanted it—and they were right, it hits the spot.”
And ever since, the songs from these celebrity sirens has lured in the rich and famous from afar to get a taste of the sweet life.
However, before the American tourists—in the early 1800’s—the Italians living on this magical coastline coined a different expression: dolce far niente – ”the sweetness of doing nothing*.”*
And that’s what we’re going for.
We’re going to relax, take it slow, and smell some roses (and lemons) for a few days. While yes, we’ll likely be cliff jumping, zipping around on vespas—and we’ll definitely stay up too late dancing in a cave—we’re going to be moving on Amalfi time. And that time moves a helluva lot slower.
We’re doing all the hard work upfront on your behalf to make sure things go as smoothly as possible. Towards this endeavor, we’ll be keeping this document completely up to date and adding to it, even throughout the weekend.
Everything you need will be in here.
If you ever have any questions feel free to contact us directly, and we’ll help you get sorted.
We know we’re living in an ever changing world, but you know that old saying: “When life gives you lemons... make limoncello.”
